Hibs to face Falkirk in Scottish Cup Semi-Final

Hibs will face Falkirk at Hampden Park in the semi-final of the William Hill Scottish Cup, with the game taking place on either Saturday 13 or Sunday 14 April.

The draw was made live on Sky Sports News by former Nottingham Forest and Scotland winger and Celtic assistant manager John Robertson and Lucy Carter, Head of Branch at William Hill with SFA President Campbell Ogilvie presiding.

This will be Pat Fenlon’s second consecutive semi-final in the tournament which Hibs haven’t won since Dan McMichael’s side beat Celtic 1-0 at Parkhead.

Since then, Hibs have appeared in nine finals, losing them all, although two went to replays; in 1914 they lost 4-1 to Celtic after drawing 0-0 in the first game and in 1979, they lost 3-2 to Rangers after two goalless draws.

Their last appearance was of course the disastrous 5-1 defeat to near neighbours Hearts on 19 May and everyone at Easter Road is determined to wipe away that memory.

The Easter Road men have earned their place, defeating three SPL teams en route. Cup holders Hearts were first to fall thanks to a David Wotherspoon goal in front of a packed Easter Road in December.

Aberdeen were next after a wonder goal by Dubliner Gary Deegan, which won the Sky Sports goal of the week competition, saw them through to the quarter final, although it took a Ben Williams’ penalty save to prevent a replay.

Yesterday at Rugby Park, Leigh Griffiths scored his first ever professional hat-trick and made another for Matt Done, as Hibs saw off Kilmarnock 4-2.

The other semi-final will feature Dundee United v Celtic.

The final will take place on Sunday 26 May.
