Cain Velasquez retained his UFC Heavyweight title in devastating fashion defeating Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva in the first round.

Velasquez dominated the fight and made quick work of ‘Big Foot’ when referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the fight after one minute and twenty one seconds.  Following the fight Silva called for the referee to be punished as he believes that the fight was called to early.

He said: “”I do agree the fight was stopped too early.  My way of thinking is that the same that applies to athletes who are penalized when they do something wrong or illegal, should also apply to referees when they do something wrong. They, too, should be penalized.”

This is Silva’s second loss to Cain Velasquez with the previous encounter also been stopped in the first round.

The co-main event and fight of the night saw Junior Dos Santos knock out Mark Hunt in the third round of the fight.  Dos Santos had the upper hand for most of the fight in what looked to be going to the judges’ score cards.  However with less than a minute to go Cigano landed with a spinning wheel kick and finished off Hunt with punches.

Junior will be looking for another title shot in his next fight and will hope to avenge the loss he suffered to Velasquez in December of last year.

Glover Teixiera received the submission of the night bonus after his victory against James Te-Huna.  Teixiera made quick work of the New Zealander who he defeated via guillotine choke in the first round of the fight.

TJ Grant knocked out Gray Maynard in the first round of their title eliminator fight and he will be champion Benson Henderson’s next opponent for his lightweight crown.  After the fight Grant made sure everyone knew his intentions.

Speaking in the octagon following his victory he said: “I know what Dana said, I want to fight Benson Henderson for the title.  Nothing but respect, but hey I want to fight the champ.  I want to be the champ,” Grant shouted after the knockout.  “Let’s do it.”

In the first fight of the main card Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone returned to winning ways with a unanimous decision victory over KJ Noons.

The UFC takes a week off before its next card on June 8 when the octagon returns to Brazil for The Ultimate Fighter Finale.  The event is headlined by heavyweight fighters Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum.
