Tate Replaces Injured Zingano For TUF 18

Cat Zingano has been forced to pull out of the upcoming series of The Ultimate Fighter and has been replaced by Miesha Tate.

Zingano suffered a knee injury in preparation for the show and subsequent fight against UFC Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.  The promotion has announced that due to the injury Tate will now coach against Rousey in the 18 series of the show, and will fight the champion in December.

This comes as a massive blow to Zingano who dominated Tate when they fought each other at The Ultimate Fighter season 17 finale in April.  Cat won the fight via TKO due to knees and elbows and secured her title opportunity.

However following her injury while in training she has had to have surgery on her knee and according to reports she is hoping to resume training in six-to-nine months.  According to the same report Zingano has been promised a title fight upon her return.

This will not be the first time that Rousey and Tate have faced each other, with their previous bout being in March of last year in Strikeforce.  Ronda defeated Miesha on the night by a first round armbar to take the victory and become champion.

There is plenty of bad blood between the two women and according to reports Rousey was not told Tate would be replacing Zingano on the show.  Ronda is said to have stormed off set after seeing Miesha thinking that she had been replaced, she was then told that it was Cat who had been replaced due to injury.

Rousey told Yahoo Sports: “This is what we really wanted all along, everyone said an Ultimate Fighter between me and Miesha would be the best. We have a personal history with each other and this is a personal show. For some reason, I me and Miesha are intertwined in fate like Ali and Frazier or something like that.”

TUF 18 premiers in September and is expected to air on BT Sports, the new home of the UFC in the U.K. and Ireland.
