Peruvian Police Release Video Of Female Irish Drug Trafficker


Authorities in Peru have released a video of an Irish woman who was arrested in Peru on suspicion of drug trafficking.

20-year-old Dungannon native Michaella McCollum Connolly was arrested along with Melissa Reid (19) from Scotland at Lima’s international airport last week.

Peruvian police said they found more than 10.8kg of cocaine, thought to be worth around €1.7 million, hidden in food in the luggage of the two women at Jorge Chavez international airport.



The video shows the two women being questioned by authorities.

The family of the Tyrone woman had reported her missing from her home in Ibiza prior to news of her arrest as she had not been in contact with them for a number of days.

Reid, from Lenzie in East Dunbartonshire, said: “I was forced to take these bags in my luggage.”

When asked if she knew they contained drugs, Ms Reid said: “I did not know that.”

Ms Reid also confirmed that they due to fly on an Aer Europa flight to Madrid, and then on to Majorca.

The duo, who will appear in court this week , may face up to 25 years in prison.
