Quartet Return To First Post Trapattoni Ireland Squad

Noel King today announced a provisional 26 man squad for Ireland’s upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Germany on October 11 in Cologne, and Kazakhstan on October 15 in Aviva Stadium.

The squad will be shortened ahead of the fixtures in order to facilitate injuries with both Robbie Brady and Jon Walters struggling with injury.

Andy Reid , Darron Gibson , Anthony Stokes and Kevin Doyle make welcomed return to the squad following exile under Giovanni Trapattoni. However Stephen Ireland’s international exile continues.

Speaking today, the Republic of Ireland interim manager said: “I spoke to a lot of the players over the past week and everyone is looking forward to coming in. Playing against the third ranked team in the World is always going to be a big challenge, but it is the sort that every player wants to be a part of.

“It is a natural ambition to try and win every game, and these two games should be no different. There are always difficulties in achieving victories, but our ten days in camp will be spent working together with a focus on doing so.

“It is an honour to be working with the players and having the opportunity to manage the senior team against Germany, and Kazakhstan is a huge source of pride for me and my family.”

Both Richard Dunne and John O’Shea are suspended for the Germany game, but will be drafted in for the Kazakhstan fixture in Dublin.

Forwards Simon Cox and Conor Sammon, two squad regulars under Trapattoni , have both been left out.

Squad: Forde, Westwood, Randolph, O’Brien, St Ledger, Wilson, Coleman, Kelly, Clark, McShane, Gibson, Whelan, McCarthy, Green, A Reid, McGeady, Pilkington, McClean, Brady, Quinn, Hoolahan, Long, Keane, Walters, Doyle, Stokes.
