Australia Look Set To Improve For Second Test With Ireland

International Rules Series Second Test

Ireland v Australia

Ireland come into this second test with a comfortable lead (57-35) and don’t seem like they are going to lose the series.

However Australia have shown signs of what they are capable of with a brilliant 3rd Quarter last weekend when they really put fierce pressure on the Irish defenders and turned over a lot possession which resulted in scores for them.

Ireland need to make sure that they repeat what they did in Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday and will want to make full use of the mark as they did the last weekend.

The Aussies will aim to start this game well and I will expect them to try to build a lead early on, but they face a mountain of a task to win this series. Ireland’s ability to score goals could ultimately separate the two sides in Croke Park on Saturday evening.

Australia were unfortunate not to score a second goal last time out, but everything tells me that Ireland can control the pace of the game better than the Aussies, especially with Ireland’s use of the mark. Irish tackling was vastly superior last time out and Australian have plenty to ponder for the second test. I expect that Australia will like the open spaces of Croke Park as the professional should have higher fitness levels for this pitch, however it may not be enough for them to claw back the series.

Verdict: Narrow win for Ireland
