Ireland Take Lead Into Second Shinty Test

International Hurling/Shinty Series First Test

Ireland 4-12 (24) Scotland 2-12(18)

Ireland started this series in Croke Park brilliantly when Cahir Healy scored some early goals to give Ireland a strong lead. This was soon followed by a superb move by Ireland that resulted in a goal for Graham Mulcahy.  It took a while for the Scots to get going in this game and some defensive errors on the Irish side were punished by Liam MacDonald who opened the Scottish account.

Scotland scored a second goal when Finlay MacRae had the easiest of chances in front of the Irish goal, giving the scots an unlikely lead.. Neil McManus levelled the game with a free, but Ireland would pull clear yet again adding two goals to give them a comprehensive lead at half time, Ireland 4-5(17) Scotland 2-3(9).

Both sides exchanged points for most of the second half although Ireland were living dangerously in their defence when a free by Liam MacDonald came off the post, before Norman Campbell’s 45 came off the crossbar. Good defending by Ireland helped prevent further goals and some excellent saves by Brendan Rochford made sure Ireland remained in front. Ireland now travel to Bught Park Inverness next weekend. They go there with a margin of six points following this 4-12 to 2-12 success.
