Ireland Win International Rules Series By 101 Points

Ireland v Australia - International Rules First Test

International Rules Series Second Test

Ireland 116 – 37 Australia

Overall Result 173 – 72 Australia

Ireland were vastly superior than their Australian counterparts and it was clearly evident as it was raining goals for the Irish in Croke Park. The game started slowly but once Ireland started motoring the floodgates seemed to open and Australia had no answer. Three pointers in the first quarter from Keegan, Sheehan, McKaigue and a goal from Conor McManus ended the series as a contest.

Ireland made valuable use of the mark and tended to use this very well as a platform to build up big scores. Ciaran Kilkenny added another goal as Ireland really looked like embarrassing the team from down under.

The third quarter which is usually dominated by Australia, belonged to Ireland as further three pointers from Murphy, Sheehan as well as another goal from Conor McManus, gave them a huge lead.

Australia got mere consolation goals from Eddie Betts and Lewis Jetta. Ireland finished the game with two further goals from McBrearty and Paul Conroy and you can’t help feel sorry for the Australian goalkeeper. Ireland broke the 100 point mark to win the series by 101 points. Australia need to send better opposition if this series is set to continue into the future.
