Man Critical Following Suspected Marathon Heart Attack

A 27 year old man remains in a serious condition after collapsing at the finishing line during yesterday’s Dublin City Marathon.

Englishman Ricki Savage is believed to have suffered a heart attack after completing the 26 mile race.

Kent native Savage, who was running on behalf of the British Heart Foundation, was treated at the scene before he was transferred to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

He was resuscitated after he fell after completing the race at the 3.10.00 mark.

Aside from Savage’s injuries, the event was a great success as Ireland claimed the winner in both the men’s and women’s events for the first time in 20 years.

Clare man Sean Hehir took home the men’s title with a time of 2:18:19.

The 28 year old primary school teacher became the first Irishman to win the event since John Treacy done so in 1993.

Dubliner Maria McCambridge took the women’s title in 2:38:51 as she became the first Irish winner since Sonia O’Sullivan in 2000.
