Ireland Claim Hurling/Shinty International With Victory Over Scotland

GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Launch

Hurling/Shinty International Second Test

Scotland 0-14 Ireland 1-15

Ireland claimed victory in this year’s Hurling/Shinty international with a narrow win over Scotland in Inverness. An impressive second half display which included a goal from Patrick Maher and some well taken frees from Antrim’s Neil McManus, who contributed seven points overall in this game, ensured the Irish emerged victorious.

The game started well with both sides exchanging frees with Kevin Bartlett on fire from his frees giving the Scots an excellent start to this game. Several frees from Neil McManus kept Ireland within touching distance  of Scotland. Scotland at times looked threatening with a few opportunites on goal, forcing the Irish goalkeeper into several saves to keep them at bay. Scotland led by 10 points to 7 approaching half time. The referee added an extra few minutes to the half which reaped rewards for Ireland as they closed the gap to one point at the break, 0-11 to 0-10. Bartlett’s free taking was exceptional as he contribued ten points for Scotland.

The second half was all about Ireland. Patrick Maher scored a goal following an assist from Irish captain Neil McManus, before the latter turned over some frees to put some clarity between the sides. Scotland never gave up and tried desperately to cut the five point gap but could only manage a mere consolation point from Conor Cormack. Kevin Bartlett was superb for Scotland in this tie racking up a total of 12 points for his side.

Ireland claim the title yet again in a series that has been far more entertaining than last year. Ireland win this game by four points and the series by ten points.
