20 Year Old Gunman Jailed For Love/Hate Like Botch

A Dublin man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the attempted murder of his lifelong friend in a case a judge labelled as reminiscent of Love/Hate.

20 year old Patrick McCann of Decies Road, Ballyfermot shot Luke Wilson three times in Memorial Park, Inchicore on 13 January last causing him to lose an eye.  The men met in the Dublin 8 park to get a gun, but McCann turned the weapon on  Wilson and shot him in the neck, arm and face. He stood over him and tried to shoot him twice again only for the gun to jam on both occasions.

McCann was sentenced to 20 years for attempted murder with the final three suspended because he pleaded guilty.

Mr Justice Paul Carney said the message was not going to go out from the Central Criminal Court that senior gang figures could have an assassination carried out by preying on someone vulnerable in the expectation that if it fails great leniency will be extended.

The judge added the incident read like a script from popular RTE series Love/Hate.
