Heineken Cup Preview

Munster v Perpignan

Munster face a tough game against Perpignan in what is the crucial tie in terms of progression in the Heineken cup. Perpignan will pose a serious threat to Munster, but Munster will be expected to grind out a result in Thomond Park this weekend. Ian Keatley has impressed so far for Munster and has shown a lot of creativity in how he performs. Munster will need a good start to this game to settle their nerve and they have the try scoring ability to do so with players like Simon Zebo and Keith Earls. Once Munster create a solid lead it will be very hard for Perpignan to claw their way back into the game.

Verdict: Munster

Ulster v Treviso

Ulster face a difficult challenge against the Italian giants. Ulster’s form has not been consistent enough to say they are going to win comfortably. Treviso are a team that are constantly improving and evolving. Ulster will need to be on their guard to overcome the Italians. Ruan Pienaar will be a crucial figure for Ulster and will need to play well in order for them to triumph.

Verdict: Ulster

Northampton v Leinster

This will be a physically bruising encounter for both sides as they both aim for the top spot in the pool. Leinster have been the dominant force in European rugby for the past few seasons, a victory in this tie will almost certainly put them in the best possible position for a path to the final. Northampton will intend to keep this game tight and low scoring and will use their scrum to great effect in this tie. Leinster need to start well and really put pressure on Northampton to force mistakes. Northampton will depend on their pack to build territory, possession and scores.

Verdict: Northampton

Toulouse v Connacht

Connacht will need to play out of their skins to overcome Toulouse in their home patch in France. Dan Parks will need to be at his best to help guide Connacht to overcome the French giants. A powerful side like Toulouse could run riot on their home ground with a lot of big French internationals giving them vast experience over Connacht. Connacht will need to show more conviction and need to show more try scoring ability.

Verdict: Toulouse
