Father Of Four Gunned Down In Lucan


Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after a married father of four was gunned down in Lucan last night.

46 year old James Talbot was shot a number of times at an address at Abbeywood Court at approximately 10.30pm. His wife and four children were in the house at the time of the shooting. The dedicated kickboxer was then rushed to Blanchardstown Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardai say the gang left the scene in a beige coloured Toyota Avensis, registration number 05 C 15878. The was found burnt out a short time later in nearby Earlsfort.

Detectives say it was a well organised and planned attack.

Gardaí have appointed a family liaison officer to support the victim’s wife and children.

Detectives are now carrying out house-to-house inquiries and are speaking with neighbours who reported shots last night.

A post mortem is due to be carried out on the body this morning.

Talbot had been arrested in 1997 after he was caught in possession of £300,000 worth of heroin by undercover Gardaí.

Talbot, pleaded guilty at Trim Circuit Court in January 1998 to possession of the drug and possession with intent to supply at Loughsallagh, Clonee, Co Meath, on March 1st, 1997.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of 4kg of cannabis resin and possession of the drug with intent to supply at Foxborough Lane, Lucan, on February 28th, 1997.

Judge Patrick McCartain imposed three years for possession of the heroin and seven for possession with intent to supply and three years for possession of the cannabis with five for possession with intent to supply, with the sentences to run concurrently.
