LOI: Cork Look To Bounce Back Against Reigning Champions

irishfootball

Bohemians –v- UCD    7:45

Two relegation threatened teams face off here as Bohemians welcome UCD to Dalymount Park.

A 1-1 draw with Derry City last week has left Bohemians sitting in ninth position, but still threatened by relegation. Manager Owen Heary and his side are well aware that there is a long way to go in this league and that the best way to avoid the drop is to beat the teams around them. They face such a team here and will be looking for nothing but a win.

Goals from Robbie Benson and Cillian Morrison gave UCD a much needed three points in a 2-1 win over Drogheda United last week. Despite that win, UCD are still stuck in the relegation zone and manager Aaron Callaghan and his players will be determined to get a run of positive results that will lift them to safety, and for that they need all three points here.

Prediction: Draw

Bray Wanderers –v- Limerick    7:45

Seventh placed Bray Wanderers play host to relegation battling Limerick at the Carlisle Grounds.

Bray Wanderers will be extremely disappointed that they dropped points to rock bottom Athlone Town in a 0-0 draw last week. That result saw them miss the chance to rise up the table. They face another relegation battling team here and will be determined to be much more clinical in front of goal if they are to move away from the bottom of the table.

Limerick will have been extremely pleased with their 1-1 away draw with title chasing Shamrock Rovers last week. Despite that result, Limerick have been drawn into a relegation battle that they’d wish to avoid. Three points will go a long way to helping them avoid such a battle so that’s what they will set out to get.

Prediction: Draw

Derry City –v- Shamrock Rovers    7:45

Title chasing Shamrock Rovers travel north to play sixth placed Derry City at the Brandywell.

The 1-1 draw with Bohemians last week sees Derry sitting in sixth position and further away from the title they had wished to challenge for. If they are to have any hopes of getting back into the title race a run of victories is needed especially against the teams above them. One such team are their opponents here who will make Derry work extremely hard to get any kind of result out of them.

For Shamrock Rovers the 1-1 draw with Limerick last week did their title challenge no favours. The Dublin side will look to bounce back quickly with a victory here and if results favour them go top of the table. To do that they must win here, something manager Trevor Croly will make sure is well known to his side prior to kick-off.

Prediction: Away win

St Patrick’s Athletic –v- Cork City    7:45

Second placed St Patrick’s Athletic play host to third placed Cork City at Richmond Park.

The 2-2 away draw with Sligo Rovers would have been considered a good result for St Patrick’s Athletic in what was a daunting game. They face an equally daunting game here, win and they go top, lose and they go two points behind to a title opponent with a game in hand. Liam Buckley and his side will look to make their home form count and come away from this game with all three points.

Cork City’s title ambitions suffered a setback last week as they were soundly beaten in a 4-0 away defeat against Dundalk. They face equally tough opponents here and will be determined not to suffer a second defeat in a row. If they win here they go top. For manager John Caulfield and his side, that should be all the motivation they need.

Prediction: Home win
