GAA: Tribesmen Eye Connacht Final

Connacht Senior Football Championship

Sligo v Galway

Sligo and Galway have both had their dominant spells in the Connacht championship in recent years. Galway have shown they are still a formidable opponent in the Championship despite some poor showings in recent years. Sligo went beyond their expiry date when they last won the Connacht championship. Galway is the team to beat although home advantage is a big factor for Sligo in this game. If Galway can repeat how they played against Cork in last year’s All-Ireland, they would most certainly overcome Sligo this weekend.

Verdict: Galway

Munster Senior Football Championship

Cork v Tipperary

Tipperary have been impressive so far this year, including getting promoted to Division 3 of the national league while winning division 4, overcoming Limerick rather easily and now they face their ultimate challenge in the Munster Championship were they face the Rebels on leeside. Tipperary need to focus on giving their best possible display and on competing with their opponents. The Rebels will be red hot favourites for this game and should come through.

Verdict: Cork

Clare v Kerry

Kerry will face the prospect of Clare this weekend in Cusack Park and will be well aware that the banner men are improving with every game. Kerry are in the midst of a big injury crisis at the moment and will need to call on their other players to step up to the mark and be an example to the newcomers on the panel.

Clare will know that Kerry haven’t been at their best in recent seasons and they could sense a possible surprise might be on the cards but that is still an unlikely prospect for this Clare side at the moment. Clare will need to focus on playing football and being competitive and not to resort to a blanket defence as both these sides would prefer to play open football. Kerry will have too much firepower up front and Clare might not be able to cope with this. Kerry on the other hand need to have their defence tightened up as it has been a problem for them in most of their games in the last two or three seasons, fatigue may have been a factor in those games, but whether or not Clare have the belief to exploit the Kingdom’s defence is unlikely.

Verdict: Kerry

Ulster Senior Football Championship

Donegal v Antrim

Antrim have made good progress in the Ulster Championship in recent times and have shown that they can punch above their expectations on occasions. Donegal on the other hand have been a far more consistent performer in recent years and have the ability to control the intensity and pace of the game at any time. Antrim will need a lot of luck and need to repeat how they played against Fermanagh in the opening stages of the game for about 70 minutes if they are to overcome Donegal. The Donegal men will be well aware of the threat that Antrim can possess and will to able to break up their play a lot better. You must remember also that Antrim are a division 4 side and they are going up against the 2012 All-Ireland Champions and a very consistent side. Donegal will come out on top with their balance of play between defenders and forwards.

Verdict: Donegal
