GAA: Dubs And Meath Seek To Reignite Rivalry

Ulster Senior Football Championship

Monaghan v Armagh

The orchard county were comfortable winners over Cavan last time out but will face a different type of opposition this weekend. Monaghan will again aim to make it to the Ulster final and have the potential to overturn this Armagh side. These two sides haven’t played each other in the championship for some time, but you would expect that recent form would put the Ulster champions as firm favourites to come out on top. Armagh will need to show something rather unique and more dynamic if they are to overcome Monaghan.

Verdict: Monaghan

Leinster Senior Football Championship

Kildare v Meath

This will be the most interesting game of the weekend with Meath showing more intent and penetration in attack in their previous game than elsewhere in this year’s championship. However Kildare and Meath games have been as intense and frantic as other games. This game will point for point for the most while, with only a handful of scores going to separate the sides at the finish. Kildare without the influential Johnny Doyle may have missed their best days in the Leinster championship as Meath aim to regain ground lost in years gone by. Meath have the players to win but haven’t featured in the Leinster championship but remember Meath are the side that last beat the Dubs and could be the ones to stop the boys in blue again. The rivalry between the top two teams in Leinster could be renewed once more.

Verdict: Meath

Dublin v Wexford

Wexford will be hoping to finally get one over on the Dubs. Wexford have been a formidable opponent in the Leinster Championship in recent years and with some excellent forwards in their team they will certain be a team to watch out for. Dublin’s ability to create opportunities will be interesting but what really matters to them is their conversion rate. Wexford will be wary of the second half exploits of the dubs and will likely need to pace themselves for the full seventy minutes. It will again be interesting to see how the Wexford defence will cope with the Dublin forwards. Wexford need to be at their best and to play at a level of intensity unknown to them if they are to overcome the Dubs. Wexford could be a potential banana skin for the Dubs.

Verdict: Dublin
