Eyes are the windows of your soul. They convey thoughts, feelings and attitude. Eye contact is a component of non-verbal communication and maintaining efficient eye contact is an interpersonal skill vital for effective communication.

Sometimes people avoid looking directly at someone due to shyness and nervousness.
Your eyes might be in need of a mini make-over to boost your confidence and self-esteem.

From subtle glamorous eyes to statement dramatic eyes, the choice is yours. So how do you get the look?

-The beautician is you first port of call. You need to book an eyebrow shape, tweeze and wax. It might be tempting to try a DIY job with tweezers at home but it’s worth getting a professional look. A good eyebrow shape will add definition and open up the entire eye area.

A thick fuller eyebrow, on trend at present will give the illusion of a youthful look. In contrast a thinner brow can add to an ageing look and that’s not desired. En route home from the beauty salon, you need to buy an eyebrow brush and pencil. An eyebrow brush is an essential investment for grooming eyebrows. The eyebrow coloured pencil will add colour to your brows, especially essential for ladies with grey eyebrows. Barry M’s Brow Kit is particularly good at blending for subtle or high-definition brows.

-Dab concealer under the eye area with your ring finger. This will hide tired under eye circles and give a refreshed look to your eyes, Benefit’s Lemon Aid blends to match all skin types and corrects redness. Apply foundation over your concealer and blend well. Put the finishing touches to your look by using a bronzer under the brow bone to re-emphasise the colour of your eyes.

-When playing up your eyes as a main feature, it is best to keep foundation natural/light. The golden rule is that if you want to draw attention to your eyes, keep lips a neutral colour. If you wear too much colour on your lips, it will distract focus from your eyes. The best eye- shadows to complement blue/brown eyes are their contrast.

Brown hue colours work well on blue eyes, making the eye colour pop. Dark grey tones are also attractive on blue eyes as they accentuate blue eyes. Smokey eye duos of medium and dark greys can give a mysterious, sexy appeal to blue or brown eyes for a night-time party look. Purple, pinks and light greys are great for enhancing brown-eyed girls during the day time. Don’t be afraid to experiment with a palette of colours to discover your perfect match. Try Essence Smokey Eye sets in your favourite shade.

-Mascara. There is a wide variety of mascara on the market, the ideal should have waterproof, long lengthening properties. I use Rimmel Scandal Eyes and would find it hard to part with. Prior to applying mascara, use an eyelash comb and curler. The comb will separate eyelashes, the curler will curl and lengthen for a maximum effect. Next, make sure you clean any residue from the mascara wand to avoid clumps. Apply in a zig-zag motion from base to tip a few times for an intensifying look.
