Convicted Sex Offender Arrested In Mary Boyle Case


A convicted sex offender has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a six-year-old girl who went missing in 1977.

Mary Boyle went missing from her grandparents’ home in near Ballyshannon, County Donegal on March 18 that year.

She had been playing outside at the time of her disappearance and hasn’t been seen since.

The 64 year old man who was arrested is currently serving a sentence at Midlands Prison in Portlaoise.

He is being held at Mullingar Garda Station on suspicion of kidnapping and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.

Gardaí said the case has always remained a live investigation and they have carried out searches, issued new appeals and reviewed the case a number of times since Mary’s disappearance.

Mary’s family have stated they had no prior knowledge of the arrest and retain the hope that she can be found alive.
