King Forced To Replace Duo For German Clash

REPUBLIC of Ireland U21 Head Coach Noel King has been forced to make two changes to his squad for Monday’s UEFA U21 Championships qualifying round clash with Germany in Sligo.

QPR’s Frankie Sutherland and Bristol City defender Derrick Williams both suffered injuries on club duty in midweek and King has drafted in Derry City’s Barry McNamee and Aston Villa’s Graham Burke.

“It’s unfortunate to lose Frankie and Derrick but Barry and Graham have been in with us before and are very good players whose versatility is important,” said King.  Continue reading

Fenlon In Double Swoop For Heffernan And Zoubir

HibsPat Fenlon has completed a double signing ahead of the transfer window closing on Saturday night.

Earlier today, the club confirmed that Dublin born striker Paul Heffernan has joined from Kilmarnock after agreeing a contract until the end of the 2014/15 season, and 21 year old French winger Abdellah Zoubir has joined the club on loan from FC Istres for the 2013/14 season following a successful trial this week. Doyle Dropped By Text Message

kdIreland striker Kevin Doyle has expressed his disappointment at the manner in which he was dropped from the Ireland squad after Giovanni Trapattoni and the FAI acknowledged his omission by text message.

Doyle, an ever present in the Ireland squad for the last seven years, was placed on standby for the crunch World Cup qualifier double header with Sweden and Austria.

The Wolves striker, who scored in Saturday’s crucial 2-1 win over Bristol City revealed that he found out he had been dropped via text message and he feels let down that the powers that be hadn’t the decency to phone him. Continue reading

Four Uncapped Players In Irish Squad For Poland Clash

jhNorwich City’s Anthony Pilkington has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad to face Poland next month.

Pilkington, a standout performer in the Premier League this season had been capped at Under-21 level back in 2008. The decision to call up the 24 year old will go down well with fans who feel it should have happened a lot sooner. Continue reading
