All Ireland Football Quarter Finals

Donegal 1-12 Armagh 1-11

A late point from Paddy McBrearty fired 2012 All-Ireland champions Donegal into an All Ireland semi final against Dublin as they overcame Ulster rivals Armagh at Croke Park.

The first half started rather slowly and Armagh soon began to impose themselves on the opposition as they started adding points from Tony Kernan, Aaron Kernan and Aidan Forker. This game was a lot more open than most other Ulster matches. Armagh seemed to be in control of this game and they were playing much better football however all their good work was undone when Donegal’s Odhran McNiallais found the back of the net with the help of the post. This goal was completely against the run of play and it helped keep Donegal in touch approaching half time. Donegal improved after this for the remainder of the half and they retook the lead and went in at half time leading by two points. Continue reading

Three pointers in the first quarter from Keegan, Sheehan, McKaigue and a goal from Conor McManus ended the series as a contest. Continue reading

Michael Murphy named as Ireland Captain

International Rules Series 2013

Ireland v Australia

This is a game that has sparked fierce debate over the last few years primarily in relation to fighting and the tough nature of some incidents in this fixture. The Australians are sending an all indigenous team to take on the Irish in Breffni Park in County Cavan this Saturday.

Over the last few years the visitors tend to fare better than their counterparts but I think this series needs to be entertaining and some worth watching rather than players throwing punches or unneccessary incidents which could lead to this game being scrapped altogether.  I would fancy the Irish lads to be more skilful than the Aussies, but they must not let the nature of the Australian type tackle ruin this fixture.
