Monaghan v Tyrone

This is a very intriguing clash as both ssides possess interesting styles of play. Tyrone have been one of the most dominant and consistent teams in recent years and are giving their younger players the massive experience of playing against the best sides on the island. You only have to look at players like Darren McCurry to realise that they have potential. Monaghan on the other hand are Ulster champions and if they can repeat the way they played in the Ulster final last year against Donegal, they will most certainly come out on top. This is one of the hardest games to call this year as both sides are improving but I think if Monaghan are ready to play like that again they could win, if not Tyrone will march onwards. Tyrone 2-11 Down 3-8

This game started very slowly and looked bound to fall short of the expected high quality championship match as both sides showed no real appetite to play the game for most of the first half. Tyrone were more dominant and sharper in front of goal, but Down were very wasteful with their scoring ability. Tyrone were awarded a controversial penalty when their forward was brought down in the small square, Peter Harte stepped up to convert the penalty for the red hand county. Tyrone comfortably led by 1-5 to 0-3 points at the break. Both sides were guilty of some awful wides in the first half. Continue reading
