London Make First Connacht Final Appearance As Donegal Aim For Three In A Row

Connacht Senior Football Final

Mayo v London

London come into this game as underdogs but they have been threatening to pull off a shock victory for a while. London will be looking at players like Lorcan Mulvey and Mark Gottsche help them overcome the power of Mayo. Mayo will be well aware of the threat the exiles possess as they only scraped by them last year. Mayo should win this game without too much trouble. London have done exceptionally well and should enjoy this game at the weekend. I think Mayo will win this game by six or seven points at the final whistle.

All-Ireland SFC: Kerry Battle Cork In Killarney

Cork vs Kerry, Munster semi final 2012.

Munster Senior Football Final

Cork v Kerry

Cork and Kerry resume their traditional meeting in the Munster Championship in this year’s final in Killarney. Cork overcame a decent Clare performance in the semi-final while Kerry cruised past Waterford in their semi-final. Cork will be hoping Daniel Goulding can get big scores in Killarney and to try to upset their Munster rivals. Kerry playing at home will be a daunting task for Cork or any other team. Kerry still have the firepower to beat any team in the country with the likes of Colm Cooper and Declan O’Sullivan, but may not have the same ability to finish off teams in the closing stages. This will be a close game for both teams and I wouldn’t be surprised if it finished in a draw. Home advantage will be crucial and it would be hard to see Kerry losing at home.

Verdict: Kerry

Round One Qualifiers

Carlow v Laois

This game is the first championship qualifier in history that will take place on a Friday night. Both teams have received a significant loss in their opening game of the championship. Laois have improved a lot this year & should be too strong for their Leinster rivals. They have also  impressed with a solid league performance in division 2 this year. Carlow on the other hand have some good players like Brendan Murphy who will need to play at their best and home advantage will be important for them as they can make Laois uncomfortable but Laois should have enough quality to come through this encounter. Ulster SFC: Down Beat Resilient Derry

Down 2-17 Derry 1-15

Down overcame a stern battle against a resilient Derry side to book their place in the semi finals of the Ulster championship.

Down started with three early points in this game. Both teams began defending well, trying to score utilise counter attacks where possible. The game quickly developed into a fast and physical encounter between the two teams with Down dominating posession in the middle of the field. Down & Derry both exchanged points, with Down edging ahead despite pressure from the Foylesiders. Down restored their lead with points by Donal  O’Hare & McKiernan before Derry’s  Eoin Bradley evaded two markers to add a great point. Derry then went in front with two frees before Niall Madine broke their momentum and restored parity. Bradley played an integral role,  receiving possession and evading two defenders to set up Mark Lynch who put the ball into the Down net. Derry pushed on and Bradley nearly scored a second but the had to be content with taking a half time lead of 1-10 to 0-9. Continue reading
