Pro 12 – No Change At The Top

Two weeks to go and one would think we are already looking at the final top 4 order in the 2015 Guinness Pro 12. Aside from Munster the table toppers showed nearly all their worth over the weekend too and the knock outs are shaping up to be some absolutely mouth watering games.

On Friday night Leinster and Ulster locked horns in an absolutely crucial fixture for the Blues. Out of Europe, sitting outside the top 4 and in direct competition with Ospreys for that coveted spot, kicking off their three game run with a win was more than necessary. It looked like they were more than aware of that fact too as they raced into a 10 nil lead in the first ten minutes. Coming away from their agonisingly close finish against Toulon last week, many expected Leinster to carry over some authority from France but as it happened it turned into business as usual in the worst way possible. Pro 12 – Munster Might Too Much For Leinster

Well, that was interesting. Often the Leinster VS Munster October fixture is touted as the real start of the rugby season, for fans of both provinces anyway. Too often though, the game itself winds up not nearly living up to the billing. In recent years it has been all too one sided, or generally just dour. Well, that was somewhat unexpected. Not entirely, which is good. But once more Connacht have found themselves on the right end of a game that previously would have been a heroic defeat. Not this Connacht, not Pat Lam’s Connacht 2.0. It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly has changed, seeing as how the new wonder signings have, for the most part, not joined the squad yet. But Conancht are growing, and with a lot of homegrown talent still stoking the fires I should add. Wins like last Friday’s over Leinster just keep the train going and they now sit in the top 4 of the table, whilst Leinster lick the wounds of two close defeats. Continue reading

Pro 12 – Connacht To Be Tested In Galway

It has been an exciting two weeks in Celtic rugby with the opening rounds of the Guinness Pro 12 throwing up a shock result or two, the opening weekend notching a record all time high for tries scored, and generally a grander sense of importance to it all with the European game in the balance. Aside from Munster, who would hopefully be up against little resistance in overcoming Zebre, Irish fans will get to see some true challenges facing their provinces this weekend, not least of all being Connacht up against reigning champions Leinster.
