The Ballance Sheet #7 : A Year In Review (2013)

bb

Wrapping up the year soon, folks, so I think a few words are in order about what’s gone down in 2013…

FAVOURITE MATCHES

Had two favourites this year: with ‘Fabulous’ Nicky at CCW Revolution, back in May, and with Stevie Xavier, at WrestleZone’s Aberdeen Anarchy show in June. Two great guys, two incredibly enjoyable matches, and two amazing crowds. Definitely hope I get the chance to work with both guys again, down the line.

My other more enjoyable matches this year were with Jordan Devlin, Bam Katraz, and BT Gunn, amongst others. It’s been a good year, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with some superb talent, and in front of some great audiences. Continue reading

Irish Should Overcome Scotland In First Test

Scotland v Ireland - Senior Hurling / Shinty International 2nd Test

International Hurling/Shinty First Test

Ireland V Scotland

Ireland overcame the Scottish in last years test, even though the Scottish were questioning the reasons behind awarding five points for a goal, when three would sound much better for both sides.  Ireland won the series last year quite comfortably  (aggregate 11–21 (76) to 6–12 (42) ) even though the scoreline didn’t really reflect how well Scotland played. Ireland should win their home game in Croke Park on Saturday evening. The Scottish will be hoping to get some goals and put in a good performance, to keep the margin tight rather than have one side completely dominating the series. This game is played annual with 14 players a side. Continue reading

News in Brief : National Hero At The Centre Of Langer Row

guiForgive NIB for thinking Arthur’s Day in all its Guinnessy glory was over for another year last Thursday. Seems we were wrong.

The celebrations haven’t stopped in Kildare. A statue of the man himself has been unveiled to celebrate the first thirty years of his life spent in Celbridge. Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan was at the event declaring the Diageo name, sorry Guinness name, was known around the world and he hoped the statue would encourage people to drink more Guinness, sorry, visit the town. Although it’s Leixlip that claims the birthplace of the actual black stuff as that is where the first brewery, owned by Diageo, sorry Arthur, was established.*

Apparently Health Minister, and NIB favourite, James Reilly, wants the country to be tobacco free by 2025. Or at least that’s what his smiling face on the advertising says. Behind the scenes it’s highly unlikely the government would outlaw one of the biggest revenue earners and key tool in keeping the masses in hand. More likely is Ireland will become tobacco free, but we’ll all be addicted to million euro gold cigarillos made of ground up unicorn horns. Continue reading

Kildare Thank McGeeney After Unpopular Sacking

mcgeeney

The Kildare county board have issued the following statement after a county board meeting on Tuesday led to the removal of Kieran McGeeney as manager as the Armagh native lost a crucial vote on a score of 29 to 28, much to the anger of players and fans alike.

“Kildare GAA would like to extend their thanks to Kieran McGeeney for his 6 years in charge of the senior football team. During this time the team appeared in 5 consecutive quarter-finals and one semi-final bringing huge enjoyment to Kildare supporters as the profile of football in the county grew considerably. There were many great days in Croke Park and while a Leinster title eluded us in 2009, few could forget the wonderful contest that was served up by Kildare and Dublin on the day. The team played an exciting brand of football which thrilled their supporters and brought great joy to the county as a whole. A fingertip save denied the Lilies an appearance in the 2010 All Ireland final, while some dubious calls in 2011 cost us another semi-final appearance.  Continue reading

All Ireland SFC Semi-Final

Kerry v Dublin

23 time All Ireland champions Dublin come into this game as favourites to come through and make the final this year. 36 time champions Kerry on the other hand have been exceptional at times and seem to fade away in the second half of their previous games this year. Kerry need to maintain a strong tempo for 60 to 70 minutes to be in with a shout of reaching another All Ireland final. They simply can’t relent otherwise they will be punished by the ever growing talents of Jack McCaffrey and his fellow boys in blue. Continue reading
