Irish Emigrant Dies Following Melbourne Court Case


A 29 year old Irish man has been found dead just days after a court case in Melbourne, which he said had ruined his life.

Padraig Gaffney from Lanesborough, Co Longford, had pleaded guilty to criminal damage and was handed a $10,000 fine on Tuesday for setting off a fire hydrant in The Fraser Place Hotel in April 2013.

The actions of the construction worker caused the hotel to become flooded and it was later evacuated, with the total cost of the damage amounting to $500,000. Continue reading

Search Resumes For Missing Fisherman


The search for a missing fisherman who was washed into the sea in County Clare has resumed.

It is believed the Latvian man, aged 42-years-old, was fishing on the rocks with some friends at Ballyreen near Fanore when he was washed into the sea.

It’s understood that  the man, who is believed to be a resident of the Lanesborough area of County Longford, was struck by a wave and was not wearing a lifejacket at the time , meaning he may have been dragged beneath the waves by his heavy clothing. Continue reading
