Springsteen Set For Croke Park

Bruce-Springsteen

As an avid Bruce Springsteen fan and as the proud owner of an unused Garth Brooks ticket it’s hard to respond to this news with anything but at least mild trepidation; but all signs indicate that Bruce Springsteen is set to play two nights in Croke Park this coming summer. Continue reading

Top Ten Most Expensive Homes In The World

Super Size McDonald’s Facts_Full Infographic

Three years ago news came out that a house made from 200,000 kilograms of gold and platinum fixtures and fittings sitting somewhere in the Swiss-Italian Alpine border is the world’s most expensive house valued at $12.2 billion. Global news and blog sites were quick to announce it, including the Wall Street Journal. The only caveat, the most expensive house claimed by a Stuart Hughes was… a hoax. In fact, the most expensive house today is just a fraction of Hughes’ fake property value. The residence of Ukrainian Elena Franchuk at Kensington in London is “only” $1.58 billion. Continue reading

This autumn’s most anticipated thriller Gone Girl is finally here and it doesn’t disappoint. Adapted by the author herself, Gillian Flynn has turned her bestseller successfully into a Hollywood blockbuster.

On their fifth year wedding anniversary Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) arrives home to find his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) has disappeared. He calls the police assuming someone broke in and abducted her, but as the investigation unfolds things just don’t add up.

Detectives Boney (Kim Dickens) and Gilpin (Patrick Fugit) soon change the investigation from abduction to murder and Nick becomes their main suspect. Continue reading

NFL: Football Returns As Packers Seek To Topple Seahawks

football

It’s back. That other kind of football. The American one, where they throw the ball, wear all those big pads and make tackles with the velocity of lorries in fourth gear. The NFL never really goes away, because the draft has developed into a huge event with build-up starting the morning after the Super Bowl, and then pre-season training starts months in advance of the regular season. It is remarkable how the NFL has managed to be a year-round sport even though they only play for four months of the year. Maybe that’s why it is such a relief to have regular competition back now.

Thursday night will see the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks, kick the year off with a home game against the Green Bay Packers. No team has won successive Super Bowl’s since the Patriots in 2004/05, but the Seahawks were clearly the dominant side in the NFL last season. Although they have lost some talented guys, they look well positioned to reign once more. Continue reading

The World’s Most Expensive Food

food

It’s just another Paris Hilton Instagram post showing the room service meal she ordered during her Shanghai sojourn last November. “I love Chinese food,” she commented. But there’s one problem, except for the fried rice, the dishes were hardly Chinese: panini, creamy soup, spaghetti, and some other general meals. I wouldn’t fault her though, and the public seems to understand her little culinary mishap. After all, the Paris Hiltons amidst us are more at home eating fancy meals than being confronted by an unassuming panini. Well then, let’s give Paris Hilton one fancy menu.

I thought to put together a set of meals for one day in this infographic, featuring the most expensive foods in the world. These foods are unabashedly opulent, but before you get upset, many of these items were created for fundraising programs (like an auction). Okay, some are truly lavish beyond reason. To put their prices in perspective, our total bill by dinner’s end easily matches the annual income of an average American household, whose weekly meal budget is estimated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be somewhere from $130 to $250 for a family of four. fav-R1-07872-016A

Just two days after appearing on America’s prestigious David Letterman Show, Wicklow born musician Andrew ‘Hozier’ Byrne announces a slot on another chat show institution.

The singer broke the story on Twitter on Friday, referring to it as ‘dizzying news’. It’s no surprise considering that the twenty-four year old is yet to release his debut album. His heady rise to fame has been largely due to the two blistering and expansive singles ‘Take Me to Church’ and ‘From Eden’, both of which garnered intense radio play and a legion of fans. It’s hard to believe it’s not even a year since the first single became an over night hit thanks to Youtube. A winsome performance on RTE’s Other Voices series cemented his position as a new talent with a mature and soulful repertoire. Continue reading

All Ireland Preview: Who Can Topple The Boys In Blue?

gaa

With the long road to Croker having kick off in earnest, we’ll now take a look at the teams likely to raise Sam Maguire come September.

In Munster, the odds are firmly stacked in Cork and Kerry’s favour. Whoever can emerge from the traditional rivalry will be among the key contenders. It would be hard to see any other side from Munster upsetting this balance, claiming provincial glory outside of this two heavyweights of the game. Home advantage for either side could be a crucial factor on how they progress through the championship. Continue reading
