IFTA Reveals Shortlist Of Nominees

The Irish Film and Television Academy have announced the shortlist of nominees in 40 strongly contested categories for the 11th annual Irish Film and Television Awards, which takes place on Saturday 5th April at the DoubleTree at Hilton Burlington Road and broadcast primetime on RTÉ ONE (reaching 1.24 Million viewers last year).

Nominations are announced in categories across film and television, celebrating the highest standard of Irish talent over the past twelve months. All IFTA’s categories have been shortlisted by Members of the Irish Film & Television Academy alongside a select Jury panel of industry experts from around the world.  IFTA received 311 titles submitted for consideration in the 2013 Awards. Love/Hate : An Alternative Look

The penultimate series of Love/Hate finished last night with fans somewhat aggrieved that only two mid card characters met a gruesome death.

Here we take a look back at the hit show to date, explaining all amidst the backdrop of the Irish government.

Nigel “Nidge” Delaney – The Taoiseach

So starting at the top of the food chain, we have Nidge. The replacement to former Taoiseach, John-Boy, R.I.P. , who did not get to retire with a state pension. Nidge acts like a boss simply cause he is the boss. As well as the post of Taoiseach he also doubles up as the Minister for Finance. Nidge is a busy boy, agitated constantly from his sheer work load he keeps everything going, allocates finance where necessary and watches the budget with hawk eyes. He, like all bosses , has had to make some big and hurtful decisions so far in his career. He has had to let staff go with a bang to ensure that the State stays afloat. He has had to be ruthless to repel any ideas of him being overturned. He is not a big fan of democracy, he would rather be a dictator. What you wouldn’t say to Nidge, ‘Did you have Darren clipped?’. Dano Opens Up After Love/Hate Exit

Actor Jason Barry has spoken out after his character Dano Loughman made a dramatic exit from Love/Hate on Sunday night.

Los Angeles based Barry joined the hit show in season three and played the Continuity-IRA member , who sought to avenge the murder of his father Git (Jimmy Smallhorne), who was beaten to death by Nidge’s (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) gang after he raped Tommy’s  (Killian Scott) girlfriend Siobhan (Charlie Murphy). End Of The Road For King Nidge?

With the new series of Love/Hate fast approaching some details have emerged as to what fans can expect in series 4.

Fans will be happy to see that Tommy (Killian Scott) has apparently made a recovery after crime boss Nidge put him into a coma in series three. However, one notable absentee from the line-up is Darren (Robert Sheehan). The final episode of season three last year drew nearly a million viewers as Darren was gunned down. Continue reading
