Game Review: FIFA World Cup 2014

worldcup (easports)

EA Sports World Cup franchise is back after a four year absence as the party moves onto Brazil with enhanced features, befitting of a samba style party.

The modern FIFA games and the World Cup have long co-existed, with the latter serving as a taster ahead of the new club based game since its inception during World Cup 1998. EA Sports has always managed to capture the sense of occasion of a big event and they follow that up here in true World Cup style, akin to that of the three games that came before this title. Though there are tweaks to FIFA’s core mechanics, it’s the presentation that makes 2014 FIFA World Cup a souvenir piece worth bringing home, making it a stand out game among other souvenir games of our generation such as those titles associated with the Olympics or the Champions League. sheamus2k Sports have announced the entire roster for the upcoming WWE 2K14 game.

The list tops off WWE 2K14’s previously revealed roster for 30 Years of WrestleMania — a mode that allows players to relive famous matches from yesteryear. 2K Sports recently revealed all five eras in the mode, which span from “Hulkamania Runs Wild” to the “Universe Era.”

Video Games – What’s The Obsession?

fifa-vs-pes-14

With the release of EA Sports’ FIFA 14 just around the corner and a week since Grand Theft Auto has been released I felt this article on video games and how easily you can become addicted to them was necessary.

Speaking from experience, and if you follow me on Twitter you’ll know I am, games such as Grand Theft Auto, FIFA 14, Football Manager can easily take over your life – if you let it! I could easily spend the whole day/evening playing such games and I take a look into why this happens, graphics? Can’t just be that! Continue reading

Deadpool Review (Rated 18+)

Not your conventional superhero…

Through the years, licensed games have become something of a tainted chalice in the video game industry. Be they movie tie ins, comic book adaptations etc they have always had that one common trait; they’ve been pure and utter garbage. There has been some diamonds in the rough for sure, but until Batman Arkham Asylum in 2009, things looked like they would never change. Arkham City followed two years later and a half decent Wolverine game appeared in between and for the most part it looks like licensed titles are getting a bit more care and attention (see the last two Transformers titles, the non-movie tie in Spiderman games and more). The latest licensed game to come along then is the curious beast that is Deadpool and to be honest, it’s a tough one to call. Continue reading

Extra Life Proves Gaming Can Be Extremely Beneficial

Oftentimes in the media, video gamers are presented in somewhat of a negative light. Spotty, pimple faced teens, living in their parents basement, shielding themselves from sunlight 24 hours a day. But the reality is very different, and “Extra Life” is one event that goes some way to proving that.

Extra Life is a 24 hour gaming marathon, where gamers around the world unite to do what they love best, with the absolute goal to raise as much money for sick children as possible. The event dates back to 2008, where one group of gamers was touched by the plight of a sick little girl. Tori’s battle against acute lymphoblastic leukemia inspired the Sarcastic Gamer community in a way that is difficult to describe. Members sent in video games and bought gifts to keep Tori’s spirits up despite numerous hospital stays and three bouts with the deadly disease.

Tragically, Tori was lost to cancer in January 2008, but the generosity of Sarcastic Gamer kept the spirit going. In 2008 and 2009 Extra Life raised a combined $302,000, 100 percent of which went directly to help kids like Tori at the Texas Children’s Hospital.

Since then, the event has gone from strength to strength, and I’m proud to say that I’m taking part this year. Myself and Dean Gouldsbury are raising much needed funds for Crumlin Children’s Hospital. We’re happy to report that as of writing, we’ve raised almost 900 euro, which absolutely blows our wildest hopes and expectations right out of the water. But there’s always more to be done, and every euro makes a difference.

Donating is easy, simply click here and fill out the online form. Even if you can’t donate, pop along  today from 8am and help us out, chat with us, play with us, watch us and support us. Every minute of the 24 hours will be streamed on http://www.michaelormonde.com/2012/10/18/extra-life-2012-stream/, and we’d encourage everyone to check it out and get involved. I believe this is a very worthwhile cause, and it makes me proud to help in whatever small way I’m able to.
