Rabo Round Up – Leinster See Off Two Greats In Style

image

Not perfect, never would have been. Not when the wizard goes off injured after ten minutes. And Leinster haven’t exactly been vintage this season, not by a long shot. But when it mattered, come the final whistle they made sure the scoreboard read digits that are an accurate reflection of the legacy this team has built itself, one that the great Leo Cullen and Brian O’Driscoll were both instrumental in the construction of. Rabo – O’Driscoll & Cullen Hoping To Sign Off With Silverware

Leinster v Glasgow Warriors - Celtic League 2012/13 Round 18

Given that the latest squad update has him training in full, Brian O’Driscoll will almost certainly be donning the 13 jersey one last time when Matt O’Connor names his 23 later today. There has been many farewells for this great champion and ambassador of the sport over the last 9 months, but this is it. Tomorrow at 6pm, Brian O’Driscoll will take to the field for his final ever game of professional rugby. Do you want any more reason to make this one a must-watch? Continue reading

Rabo – Last Roll Of The Dice For At Least One Province

MUN_552655kAnd so we come to a close, the regular league season done with Leinster on top and Glasgow at their heels. You could say it’s all becoming a bit repetitive, or you could say it simply is a representation of how far beyond the rest of the league Munster, Leinster, Ulster, Glasgow and (sometimes) Ospreys are year in year out. The Rabo will change dramatically next season, the new importance of qualification fresh in minds from day one, but for now, like its grown up European counterpart, we will see out the last of the current incarnation and see what lies ahead this weekend. Rabo – Final Farewells Kick Off For Leinster

image

He has echoed the thought himself, and it is true, Brian O’Driscoll has been retiring for an awful long time at this stage. True enough, hanging up the green jersey with a Six Nations title to go with it and no Heineken Cup left to play for, the biggest flair of his retirement is probably gone. But keep in mind Leinster haven’t exactly a lavish track record with the Pro 12 title and to think it means any less to him or Leinster as a whole just because it is the only remaining prize would be a mistake Continue reading

Rabo – Provinces Move On To Final Prize

image

Once again, May brings the bad news. Irish interest has vacated the Heineken Cup and all the provinces can strive for is Celtic silverware. There has been whispers the last week of the insignificance of the Rabo these days, especially with the shake up it will receive next season due to increased relevance, but I defy you to tell any of these teams that it’s somehow lesser.

Heineken Cup – Munster Seek Final Berth

munster

Sad as it is, the Heineken Cup, that has been such a happy hunting ground for Irish teams through the years, has now got three more days of action to its name. This weekend’s semi finals and the final in May will be the last hurrah these four teams get in a competition that has been the sight of some of their most famous days. None more so of course than Munster. Holding all the remaining Irish hope in their hands, there’s no question over which game is the “must-see” of the weekend. Two giants of the game are set to go head to head, the second French thriller of the year, and the result should be worthy of legend. Continue reading

Rabo Round Up – Munster Crash Back Down To Earth

image

Well, that was deflating. Rob Penney went for a raft of changes after Munster’s thrilling defeat of Toulouse but it’s possible he underestimated Glasgow a touch too much. Leinster and Connacht won’t want to remember this weekend anytime soon either, Ulster on the other hand bounced back immensely with a comprehensive, and injury riddled, victory over the latter.
