Mahon Seeking To Add to Squad

By Damien Byrne

St Patrick`s Athletic manager Pete Mahon is still hoping to add to his squad after recently adding Dave Mulcahy and  Paul Crowley to his ranks.

Mulcahy returns to Richmond Park having been one of the Saints brightest stars last season while Crowley has made the move from relegated Drogheda United.

Mahon has already signed six new players for the new season and is currently in talks with numerous players who were attached to Sporting Fingal, prior to having their contracts terminated yesterday.

Mahon said, ‘”We’re hoping to finalise a deal for one player over the next few days and then after that I’ll be looking to bring two more players in. That will give us a nice squad after also adding Daryl Kavanagh two weeks ago’.

Mahon also added that he was happy with the preparation for the new season. “I’ve been absolutely delighted with how the first week of pre-season has gone and that’s a real positive for me. When you bring new players in you hope that they’ll buy into your way of thinking and working and the new lads have taken to the team like a duck to water”.

Stephen Bradley was one close season capture for the Saints, and the man who won the Airticity League with Shamrock Rovers last season is a ready made replacement for the now retired Stuart Byrne.

The Tallaght native spoke about how he was impressed by The Saints last season while adding his delight at his recent move. “I was impressed with Pat’s last season, they gave us a few tough games especially in the cup and when you’re up against the likes of Dave Mulcahy and Stuey Byrne in midfield you know you’ve been in a game!… I think last year in the match programme I said my favourite away ground to play in was Richmond Park, the pitch is great and there’s always a good atmosphere”.

The Saints finished fifth last season and just missed out on European qualification on the last day. English striker Danny North has re-signed and he spoke about his time last season. “I finished last season fairly well and ended up on 7 goals, I know it was a long season for most of the lads already at the club but personally I felt it was coming to an end just as I was finding my form. Overall it was disappointing to finish the season with nothing; we missed out on European football when we lost to Sligo in our last game. Although they were probably the best team to watch in the league last year.
