NFL: Football Returns As Packers Seek To Topple Seahawks

football

It’s back. That other kind of football. The American one, where they throw the ball, wear all those big pads and make tackles with the velocity of lorries in fourth gear. The NFL never really goes away, because the draft has developed into a huge event with build-up starting the morning after the Super Bowl, and then pre-season training starts months in advance of the regular season. It is remarkable how the NFL has managed to be a year-round sport even though they only play for four months of the year. Maybe that’s why it is such a relief to have regular competition back now.

Thursday night will see the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks, kick the year off with a home game against the Green Bay Packers. No team has won successive Super Bowl’s since the Patriots in 2004/05, but the Seahawks were clearly the dominant side in the NFL last season. Although they have lost some talented guys, they look well positioned to reign once more. Continue reading

Brooklyn Nets kicked off the first global game of 2014 with a resounding 127-110 win over the Atlanta Hawks at London’s 02 Arena last Thursday.

Over the past 35 years the NBA have played 147 games globally, visiting 20 different countries including China, Germany, Italy and Russia amongst others.

Yet the globalisation of the NBA has extended far beyond bringing the game cross continent.  Continue reading

Garth Brooks To Return To Dublin This July

brooks

GARTH BROOKS was in Dublin today to make a very special announcement in person. Standing in Croke Park, the location of his now legendary sell out concerts in 1997, Garth Brooks announced that he would be returning to that same venue in July 2014 for two very special performances. The shows, two special performances before his worldwide tour which is due to start later this year, are called The Garth Brooks Comeback Special Event. Over two nights at GAA Headquarters, Garth and his fans will celebrate his legendary career – a career which saw him named the #1-selling solo artist in U.S. history, sell in excess of 128 million albums and receive every accolade the recording industry can bestow on an artist. NFL Playoffs: Wild-card Round

nfl

The regular season has now ended, and the twelve teams for the playoffs have been settled. While Denver, New England, Seattle and Carolina get a week to rest up, the other eight have to go straight into battle this weekend for the right to play one of them. Here, we examine the fixtures taking place this Saturday and Sunday, and try to predict (in a decidedly unscientific manner) who is likely to emerge, and who will be going home after a one-and-done showing. NFL Playoffs: Runners And Riders

nfl

With only two games left to play in the regular season, it seems time for a comprehensive overview of the runners and riders for the playoff berths that are still to be decided. We already have three teams who have secured some kind of playoff game for themselves in January, but this is one of the most interesting periods in the NFL season, with everyone who is still mathematically in with a shout trying to claw their way forward for a shot at the Superbowl. TNA’s Storm Looking Forward To Visiting Father’s Homeland

stormpic1

TNA Wrestling superstar James Storm is has no doubt he will arrive in Ireland this January with a belt firmly wrapped around his waist.

However, the belt may not be what fans of the redneck revolution are expecting. “I don’t know about a title but I’ll have some kind of belt, whether it be a belt to hold up my pants or a world title belt.”

The Tennessee native bowed out of the TNA World Title tournament this week when his partner Gunner threw the towel in after The Cowboy endured a brutal beating at the hands of former Beer Money companion Bobby Roode in a Florida Death Match. However Storm insists his quarter final defeat won’t hinder his title prospects and he is ready to reclaim gold, whether it be in singles or tag action.

Storm is confident of title success in the near future and would love to have some gold around his waist when TNA visits his father’s homeland. TNA brings their Maximum Impact tour to Dublin’s national stadium on Wednesday January 29th 2014, a venue Storm is more than familiar with, having emerged victorious from a triple threat with Roode and Austin Aries when TNA last visited these shores. NBA Western Conference Preview

Western-Conference

The Western Conference has in many ways being forced to take a back seat role as the Miami Heat have ripped up the entire NBA over the past two seasons. The pre season games are now a matter of weeks away whilst teams begin training camps next weekend. The season really is just around the corner and I for one certainly cant wait.

How things have changed for the Dallas Mavericks since they won the Championship not too long ago. Dirk Nowitski has been a pro for the past fifteen years but simply put cannot continue to carry this Mavs team like he has done over the past two seasons. Having lost many of their star performers throughout those two seasons I think it is safe to say that the Mavs are no longer serious play off contenders and must be contempt with a few mediocre seasons as they look to rebuild their team.
