The League of Ireland season is rarely boring and un-entertaining, 2013 was no different. We experienced many highs and lows with St.Patrick’s Athletic and Athlone Town among the most memorable stories as they won their respective leagues.

As ever there was no shortage of controversy as Waterford United endured a flirtation with the financial abyss as former manager Stephen Henderson sought to have them wound up in court before both parties ultimately made an agreement. Robinson Hopes To End Season With Special Cup Win

Shamrock Rovers haven’t had the best of seasons but Hoops midfielder Shane Robinson has vowed to finish the season by lifting the FAI Cup.

The Waterford native was in buoyant mood after a brace from Karl Sheppard and a Mark Quigley goal saw the Hoops beat Bray Wanderers 3-0 in the league on Monday evening.

Derry City look to get back on track as they take on Shelbourne at the Brandywell.

After the 1-0 defeat at the hands of St Patrick’s Athletic on Tuesday, Derry City are out of the running for the league championship. A European place is still an option but manager Declan Devine and his side know that they cannot afford to slip up again or their league season will be over.

After the 2-1 home defeat last week against Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne will need a win here to give themselves a chance of surviving. Two defeats in a row have left them second from bottom on 20 points. Shamrock Rovers lifted the Setanta Cup after a convincing 7-1 victory over Louth natives Drogheda United on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers got off to a blistering start with James Chambers, Sean O’Connor and Karl Sheppard putting clear daylight between the teams in the first half. Both Ronan Finn and Billy Dennehy managed a brace in the second half as Trevor Croly earned his first piece of silverware as Rovers manager A mere consaltion goal for Drogheda United was scored by former Shamrock Rovers man Gary O’Neill.
